App User Agreement

1 · What this is
This is the agreement between you and Adolescent Content, Inc. about your use of the Storyteller and Youthteller app.
It is written to be read. If something in it does not make sense, write to community@adolescentcontent.com and ask, rather than agreeing to something you do not understand.
Two other documents go with it and form part of the same agreement:
The Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and who sees it
The Community Guidelines, which explain what you can and cannot post
By creating an account you agree to all three.
2 · Who can join
You must be 13 or older. We ask for your date of birth and we mean it.
If you are under 18, you can join and take part, but a parent or guardian has to agree before you can accept paid work. Section 9 sets that out.
If you are under 18, your parent or guardian is agreeing to this too. They should read it. They can write to us at any time to ask about your account or to close it.
Anyone eligible can sign up. Some members arrive through a personal invitation from us, most sign up directly. Either way the account is yours from the moment you create it. We can remove a member who breaks the rules, and we can decline to reinstate someone we removed before.
Membership is free. There is no subscription and no fee to be a member.
3 · Your account
One person, one account. Do not create an account for someone else, do not let someone else use yours, and do not run more than one.
Tell us the truth about who you are. A fake name, a stolen photo or a portfolio of someone else's work is grounds for removal, and in the case of paid work it is grounds for us to withhold payment.
Keep your sign in secure. If you think someone else has got into your account, tell us straight away.
You can be in one network or both. Storyteller and Youthteller are separate memberships on one account. Your photo, bio, handle and progress are separate for each. Your name, date of birth, location and contact details are shared across both and are only asked once.
4 · What the app is, and what it is not
The app is a members network. It shows you opportunities, lets you apply, gives you somewhere to publish work, and connects you to other members.
Adolescent is not your employer. Membership does not make you an employee, a partner or an agent of Adolescent Content, Inc. Where you do paid work for us or for a client, the terms of that specific job govern it, not this agreement.
We do not promise you work. Being a member, completing certification, reaching a tier or topping the leaderboard does not entitle you to be selected for anything.
We do not guarantee the app is always available. We will try, but things break.
5 · Certification
Storyteller members complete a certification course of five modules. Each module is a video followed by a quiz.
Youthteller members complete a shorter orientation of three videos. Only the first carries a question.
Where there is a quiz, you have to pass it. The app marks your answers against the correct ones. There is no honour system, no self approval and no skip.
Getting an answer wrong costs you nothing. Retries are unlimited, immediate, unscored and invisible to anyone else.
Certification unlocks things in two stages. After the third Storyteller module, your work becomes a recognised portfolio: it enters our internal search, so staff can put you in front of a client. After the fifth, posting in Spaces opens and you can publish a public portfolio page of your own.
That staging is the point of the course. When Adolescent puts a member in front of a client, certification is what stands behind it.
Do not share the course videos. They are ours, they are for members, and they are not to be downloaded, reposted or passed on.
6 · What you post
It stays yours
You own your work. Nothing here transfers ownership of anything you make.
What you let us do with it
When you post something in the app, you give Adolescent Content, Inc. permission to host it, store it, reformat it so it plays properly on a phone, and show it to other members and, where you have chosen to publish publicly, to the public.
We can show your work in the app and on your public portfolio if you enabled one. That is the licence in one sentence.
Using your work in our own marketing, or showing it to a client as an example, is separate and we will ask. Ordinary membership does not give us marketing rights over your portfolio.
This permission ends when you delete the post or your account, except for copies already made in backups, which age out, and anything a client has already lawfully received.
What you promise about it
When you post something you are telling us that it is yours to post, that you have permission from anyone in it, and that it does not break anyone else's rights.
If a shoot has other people in it, that is on you. Release forms are your responsibility, not ours.
Where a post goes
Work you post to your profile also appears in the feed. A post you make in a Space does not appear on your profile, unless you tick "Also show on my profile" when you post it. The flow runs one way, and that toggle is the only exception.
Being publicly visible
On Storyteller, you publish. Your profile lives inside the app unless you decide otherwise. Publishing a public portfolio page is an action you take, not a default, it unlocks after the full course, and you can undo it at any time.
On Youthteller, you consent and we switch it on. There is no publish button. There is a casting profile, used when a client needs to see real young people for a project, and it only goes public if you opted in beforehand in your settings and you are 18 or over. A minor's profile is never made public whatever the settings say. Withdrawing the consent takes it down.
Which of your work can be shown to a client
Work reaches a client shortlist only if it has been approved for sharing. A shortlist is a web page we send by link, not an account a client logs into, so treat the link as capable of reaching anyone who receives it.
7 · Community rules
The Community Guidelines are part of this agreement. You accept them before you can post anything.
The short version: no harassment, no hate, no sexual content, nothing involving minors that would not be fine in a school, no spam, no scams, no other people's work passed off as yours, nothing illegal.
There is a word filter that blocks clearly prohibited terms at the moment of posting. It is crude and it is not the whole system. Staff review reports and act on them.
8 · Opportunities, studies and getting paid
Opportunities and studies are posted by Adolescent. Some are ours, most are for clients.
Applying is not being selected. Selection is at our discretion and at the client's.
Each job has its own terms. Rate, deliverables, deadlines, usage rights and payment timing come from that job's agreement, not this one. Where they conflict, the job's agreement wins.
Payment happens through our payment providers, not inside the app. You will need to give them the information they require, including tax information where the law says so.
You are responsible for your own taxes. We report what we are required to report.
XP, tiers, titles and leaderboard position have no cash value. They are not currency, they cannot be transferred or sold, they cannot be exchanged for anything, and we can adjust them if they were awarded in error or gamed.
Do not go around us. If you meet a client through Adolescent, do not take the work off platform to avoid the terms of the job.
9 · If you are under 18
You can join, browse, post, comment and take part.
Paid work needs a guardian to agree first. When you apply, the app tells you, collects your guardian's name and email, and records that consent is needed. The agreement is signed outside the app. Until it is signed, the Accept button does not work.
You will be asked the same question again on the application form. That is deliberate.
Some questions are not asked of you at all. Sexual identity, political affiliation and religious background do not appear for anyone under 18.
Two more wait for permission. Racial identity and gender identity are not asked of you until a guardian has agreed, and are optional after that.
Your profile is never made public while you are under 18.
Some studies are not open to you. That is not a judgement about you, it is how the research works.
A guardian can contact us at any time at community@adolescentcontent.com to ask about the account, to withdraw consent, or to close it.
10 · What you must not do
Pretend to be someone else, or deliberately give a false date of birth in order to get round an age rule
Post work that is not yours as though it is
Harass, threaten, bully or target another member
Post sexual content, or anything sexualising anyone under 18
Scrape, copy or harvest other members' information
Try to break into the app, probe it for weaknesses, or interfere with how it runs
Use bots or automated tools against it
Use the app to advertise, recruit for anything unrelated, or run a scheme
Share your account with anyone
Get around a suspension by making a new account
Do anything illegal
11 · What we can do
We can remove a post or a comment. Usually because it was reported and it broke the rules.
We can suspend an account. A suspended member still signs in normally but lands on a single screen instead of the app. That screen says the account is suspended, names the category of rule that was breached, offers a way to appeal, and lets them delete the account.
A suspension hides, it does not destroy. Your profile disappears from search, the leaderboard and anything client facing, and your posts stop showing. If a suspension is lifted, all of it comes back exactly as it was, and your XP, tier and project history were never touched.
We can delete content permanently where it genuinely has to go.
We can end your membership. For repeated or serious breaches, for fraud, or where the law requires it.
We will tell you. You will be told that action was taken and what category of rule it concerned. You will not be told who reported you, and you will not get a transcript of the report.
12 · Appealing
If we suspended you and you think we got it wrong, say so. The appeal route is a form, linked from the suspension screen. It is a form rather than an email because it creates a record and does not get lost.
If we removed a post rather than suspending you, or the form is unavailable, email community@adolescentcontent.com.
We do get it wrong. That is exactly why suspension hides rather than deletes and why lifting one restores everything.
13 · Leaving
You can delete your account inside the app, from Account settings and from the suspension screen.
Deleting removes your profile, posts, comments and uploads. Some records are kept where the law requires, which the Privacy Policy sets out.
We may close an account that has been inactive for a very long time, after telling you first.
14 · Our stuff
The app, its design, the Adolescent and Storyteller and Youthteller names, the course videos, the written material and the software are ours or licensed to us. Being a member does not give you a licence to reuse them.
15 · Other people's services
Signing in with Google or Apple, application and study forms, and payment providers are run by other companies under their own terms. We are not responsible for them.
Links posted by members go to places we do not control.
16 · No promises about outcomes
The app is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error free, or that it will get you work.
Other members post things we have not reviewed in advance. There is no pre approval queue, because a human reading every post before it appears is not how this works, so you will sometimes see something before we do. Report it and we will act.

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California.
19 · Changes
We can update this agreement. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app and ask you to accept the new version before you carry on posting. The version and the date you accepted are shown under Documents in the app menu.
20 · Odds and ends
If one part of this turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
Not enforcing something once does not mean we have given it up.
You cannot transfer this agreement to someone else. We can transfer it if the business is sold.
This agreement, with the Privacy Policy and the Community Guidelines, is the whole agreement about your membership.
